New Bible Study! "The Rosary in Scripture"
Today we celebrate the
Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
(a Luminous Mystery of the Rosary, by the way). In today's Gospel reading we hear God the Father say, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him” (Luke 9:35). Good advice, don't you think? But how can we know what Jesus has to say if we don't read Scripture?
St. Jerome in His Study
St. Jerome, the great biblical scholar, famously said, "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ." What better way to learn about Jesus than by reading, studying, and meditating on His Word, that is, the Bible?
Similarly, Jesus' mother said, at the wedding in Cana, in her last words in the New Testament, "Do whatever he tells you" (John 2:5). Again, how do we know what Jesus is telling us without diving into Scripture? And if our mama says to do it, we must do it, mustn't we?
So we bring all this together with the great gift the Church has given us on behalf of the Blessed Mother: the Rosary! It is a devotion with biblical prayers in which we meditate on biblical events. Is there a better combination than this to get into the Bible?
As seen in the bulletin, our latest Bible study will begin in September and will be offered on Sunday mornings as well as on Wednesday mornings and evenings. Full details can be found by clicking the button below (just reply to this note with any questions or comments).
